Howard Gardner proposed the Theory of Multiple Intelligences in 1983 - that humans process information through multiple intelligences rather than through one unitary intelligence. At this point, Gardner delineates eight intelligences:
Currently most user experiences rely heavily on the use of linguistic and logical-mathematical intelligences, perhaps with some use of spatial intelligence thrown in for good measure.
I'd like to discuss how we can increase the impact of the user experience through engaging other intelligences, such as musical intelligence. To do this, I'm bringing along some musical instruments - and if you see this in time, please bring your instruments as well. We can make some music together and use our own experience to discuss how we can increase the impact of the user experience by engaging users' multiple intelligences (including musical intelligence).
I need to do this on Friday night, since I'm going to crew for my daughter, who is stage managing the Y Fest in SF on Saturday.

online collaboration = musical jam, working together well
instruments that allow multi-player? gamelon (?)
Eight forms/layers of intelligence:
1. Linguistic
2. Logical-mathematical
3. Spatial
4. Interpersonal
5. Intrapersonal
6. Musical
7. Bodily-kinesthetic
8. Naturalist
In the online world today, we only use #1-5 most of the time.
Interlude: play together, see what we do when we play music. How can we put this to use online?
Instruments available:
User experience = trying to engage the user
When we play music, we get engaged. But: some of the stuff we deliver online is not very engaging.
Ca. 4-6 min. jam session, using
During play, group members were interacting with each other.
According to Gardner: entry point, pulling someone into the user experience
Discussion.
Q: Is rhythm included?
A: Yes. Rhythm, patterns etc.
Example: online karaoke contest in Japan and/or Korea, user can go online and do karaoke (URL?)
Q: Is music on myspace included?
A: Yes.
Example: For some people, it's easier to concentrate with the right kind of music.
// school for the deaf, fremont (cool video stuff)
How to bring in the knowledge from people who are not "knowledge workers" (who actually build the things we need)?
How does society value these non-knowledge workers?
Example: physican who can train somebody else remotely using high-fidelity video/audio.
